The project impact is represented by its valuable contribution to bring in front a new bone substitute: 3D composite scaffolds for bone regeneration in osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a major public health problem being the fundamental cause of fractures in individuals over the age of 50 years, with serious and complex consequences. In these type of fractures bone healing and repair fail, a bone graft transplant being often required. The development of bone regeneration approaches such as bone tissue engineering derived from the drawbacks of the current approaches (autografts, allografts). Scaffold are the main component of tissue engineering, acting initially as a temporary support for adhesion and cell growth and then having a defining role in extracellular matrix synthesis.
